ABOUT THIS HUNT:
We hunted 1000 acres of private land in the heart of Austin, TX. This hunt was set up by Scott McKinney a good friend of Bass Pro Shops.
My nephew Jim joined us on this trip but did not participate on the hunt. It was great to see family along my Obsession Quest journey! Jerry Martin however was along for the hunt. When it comes to hunting turkeys it just wouldn't be the same without my hunting buddy Jerry!
We were on a mission. It was late afternoon and we heard a gobbler off in the distance. Jerry and I decided to split in two different directions. We were going to employ the classic two man turkey tag team!
I moved 50 yards forward of Jerry and took up a position. I began calling and it was clear the turkey the turkey was coming our way. I stopped calling and because we've hunted so many times together Jerry (somewhere behind me) instinctively knew it was his queue to start. The bird came in. Pow! Turkey #1 in the fryer!
My turn would come a little later in the day but as I've said before many times, turkey hunting is about fellowship and conversation and although I needed this animal for my Obsession Quest it sure was nice to hunt with friends and get to visit with some family!
